Hi, My name is Ian Belanger and I am the Lead Developer here at Appendipity.
First let me apologize to anyone who had an issue with any of our themes in the past 4 days. I am sincerely sorry if you experienced problems after updating WordPress, BluBrry or your theme. Here is a little about what happened and why it happened with each update.
As many of you know, on Friday WordPress released version 4.1 “Dinah” out into the public. Anyone using any of our Podcast Themes, who updated to WP 4.1, knows that this update completely broke their audio players and added some weird looking text over them.
What caused this?
WordPress 4.1 included an updated audio player, with new accessibility features. This changed the HTML markup of the player and caused the weird text to show over the player.
We then responded by fixing the bug and releasing an update to our themes. This worked fine for a day, until Blubrry updated their plugin to version 6.0. Anyone using Blubrry 6.0 and WP 4.1 with one our themes would’ve seen issues with the audio player volume controls. So we released another update to fix the bugs. That was last night’s update. This was an issue with our themes and not with Blubrry.
Today we started to receive support tickets from App Themers letting us know that there was an even bigger issue. All of their post content was missing. This was completely my fault and I am very sorry if it caused you problems.
So what happened?
During the last round of updates to fix the Blubrry issues, I decided to fix a bug between the Disqus plugin and our themes. When using Disqus with some of our themes, the comment number in the comment bubble, gets replaced by Disqus with (#) Comments, instead of just being a number (#). This has been an ongoing issue with Disqus and I thought that I had a good fix for it. So I rolled it in with the Blubrry update. My Disqus fix is what caused the themes to lose their post content.
If you had Disqus installed, you wouldn’t know that there was any issue, but those who didn’t have it installed, immediately were missing their post content.
So today, I released a new update for Maron, Playcast, Podcast, inPRESS, Media and Showcase, removing the bad Disqus fix. I then tested it in numerous ways to ensure that there were no more issues. If you have not received the update notification in your dashboard, you will soon. Make sure to update and that all of your plugins and WP are all up to date also.
Again, I would like to apologize for any inconvenience that these updates may have caused you.
